Valve calls it stops macOS support for its virtual reality platform.
A Valve employee posted an update to the company's SteamVR forums, stating that "SteamVR has ended macOS support so our team can focus on Windows and Linux."Apple introduced "Metal for VR" in June 2017 and highlighted a partnership with Valve. At that time, Valve was pushing VR as a platform and working with HTC on its Vive system; fast until 2020, Valve had its own headphone and just released its highly anticipated title "Half-Life: Alyx".
This affects developers more than actual players.
It doesn't support almost any Mac games, and even newer Apple MacBook Pros have failed to meet the requirements of the minimum specification for Oculus or SteamVR. As people point out in the download, Valve's latest hardware survey shows that only 4% of the players on the platform use macOS initially, indicating a very small segment of actual gamers to match the Venn diagram that owns the Mac.
Game developers who create VR content on a Mac will likely have the ability to develop and test on one device. Since Apple is fiercely chasing the pros with expensive devices like Mac Pro and iMac Pro, it won't be great when a major software platform decides that you're not worth the effort.
